As families around the world kindle the first candles of the Hanukkah menorah, I’m deeply grateful for your steadfast support of Qashar Ministries in 2023. Your dedication and generosity are a huge encouragement, making it possible for us to bring love and support to Israelis in desperate need this holiday season. Thank you!
I’d also like to explore Hanukkah’s history and significance while uncovering its connection to our mission at Qashar Ministries.
A History of Hanukkah: Defeating Evil
Hanukkah remembers the events that unfolded in the 2nd century BC when the Jewish people, led by the Maccabees, defeated the oppressive rule of Antiochus IV. Antiochus oppressed the Jewish people and faith, leading to the Maccabean Revolt.
The struggle reached its peak when the Maccabees, against overwhelming odds, miraculously reclaimed the Temple in Jerusalem that Antiochus had desecrated. The victory marked the return of Judaism’s holiest place.
Worship Follows Victory
When the Maccabees sought to rededicate the Temple, they found only a single flask of consecrated oil, enough for just one day. Miraculously, the single flask of oil burned for eight days!
Continuing Our Work
As we reflect on the significance of Hanukkah, it’s also an opportunity to shed light on the ongoing challenges faced by our brothers and sisters in Israel. Thousands of Israelis have been displaced from their homes, are out of work and away from their communities.
You Make This Possible
Through our work at Qashar Ministries, we are committed to providing some of life’s basic needs to those in need. Through our partners in Israel, together we are bringing groceries to hungry families, providing hot meals to soldiers on the front lines, and providing some of life’s basic needs (toilet paper, cleaning supplies and more) to many who can’t afford them. Together, we are embodying the solidarity of the Maccabees, while looking forward to a future without conflict. You are bringing hope to Israel!
Happy Hanukkah!
As you celebrate with family this holiday season, take a moment to remember our Jewish brothers and sisters in your prayers and year-end giving. Your generosity and kindness will have a huge impact among the thousands waiting to experience the kindness of God.
Happy Hunukkah and Merry Christmas!
